The engineering process is a set of steps that engineers follow to develop functional products and processes. It is a continuous process that can be used to develop prototypes and refine existing solutions. It’s also a great the engineering design process method to enhance problem solving skills and create a mindset of “design under constraint”. The process of engineering design is similar to the scientific method but is different in that scientists carry out experiments whereas engineers apply their imagination and design.
Determine the Cause
Engineers must first determine what the project needs to be successful. This involves a lot of brainstorming and often requires the engineer to consider limitations (e.g. materials, time and tools) while coming up with solutions. This also requires an engineer to assess the various options by identifying their strengths and weaknesses before picking the most suitable solution to meet the objectives of the project.
Get Ideas
Engineers can choose to employ different methods to generate solutions which range from brainstorming and discussions to CAD modeling in 2D and animation. Visualizing and comparing the resulting solutions to the specifics of the problem will help determine the most effective solution.
Once the final design is chosen, it’s time for you to design the prototype. This could be as easy as a sketch on paper or as a working model built using the CAD software. Whatever the case, this step permits engineers to test the final product and check whether it fulfills all the intended goals.
